LIIAR analysis of of my front page and how I achieved it
Media Language- I have included lots of different features in this front cover to try and get the best outcome, these features include:
*The mast head, I have chosen to place the mast head at the top of the page, in the colour yellow so that the eye of the reader goes straight to the mast head this then grabs the audience's attention and attracts them making them look at the rest of the cover. The word perform sets the theme for the cover and the magazine, readers can see this and then decide whether the magazine will interest them.
Under the masthead I placed '@Wyke' so that people know its a college magazine.
*The main image, The main image is a set up photograph took in a bare dance studio, the photo was originally a long shot, but to make the magazine look more effective and to fit the brief I zoomed the image in. I then edited the image to make it black and white, this gave a contemporary, modern feel. With a black and white image it will then be easier to get a colour scheme.
*Cover lines, I have place the 4 cover lines around the main image, the cover lines show what the magazine includes, I tried to make them exiting so that the audience wanted to read more on the stories. On one of my cover line I included images which I think made the more interesting and it will make the audience want to read the whole article. On another cover line I wanted to make the audience feel special, I did this by saying 'hidden secrets inside' this will make them feel that they are getting told some important information. I also wanted to use interaction in my cover lines I did this by putting 'you decide' this will allow the audience to get involved with the magazine.
*Sell line, I added a sell line to my front cover because I feel like they are a successful feature to include and it will help sell the magazine, my sell line 'the new dance craze' suggests that this is a popular, up to date dance magazine containing all the new stories and moves.
*Date, Bar code, issue number and website, following conventions of a magazine cover I saw that these features were all included so that people can buy the magazine and trust the magazine.
Audience- My magazine cover is aimed at dance students aged 16-20, both male and female students. However as dance is more of a female subject therefore it will be mainly girls buying the magazine. The colours used are neither masculine or feminine. I based the colours and images from my mood board and influences, this helped with the target audience too. I made sure that the cover lines would interest and attract my target audience as well as the over all look of the magazine, that's why I included things to do with dance and performing so that dance students would see the cover lines and want to read more.
Ideology- The ideas and meanings behind my magazine cover is to tell dance students at Wyke college why they should buy the magazine, the front page suggests it is a high quality, informative, reliable, entertaining magazine. The issue number tell the audience that the magazine is successful as there has been 14 issues and if it does well then it will make dance students want to buy it more. The price tells the audience that it is a good magazine as it's not that cheap so that it will high quality stories and articles. The date shows the magazine is up to date and reassures the reader that they are reading reliable articles. Also the cover lines show the target audience that the stories inside the magazine will be interesting and what they like to read. so they are informed and entertained at the same time.
Representation- The main image is of a girl in a dance pose, performing. Showing this magazine is for people that like to perform. When taking the photograph I told the model to look happy, like she enjoying herself and passionate on performing to create this exiting feeling about the magazine. For example, saying if you love performing you'll love reading this magazine. Also she is looking at the camera so that it looks like she is looking at the audience, therefore attracting them. Using a normal dance student on the cover allows other dance students to relate to. As the photograph is a medium close up shot it allows the audience to see clearly the emotions in her face and the care she is putting into the position she's in.
I achieved this magazine cover using Photoshop. I stared out by planning and researching looking at the layout, influences, my target audience, the name and style of the magazine. When I decided and completed these stages I then took my photographs taking into consideration the brief and representation. I selected my favourite image and opened it in Photoshop. I then added the features like my mast head and cover lines to end up with my final product.
